Recharging Your Batteries in 2024
The work routine has settled in. Half of the people who created resolutions for the new year will abandon them by Monday, January 15. 95% of people will give up by January 31. Recharging your and your team’s batteries for a more successful 2024 becomes even more challenging because we often leave the showroom when it is dark.
A technique to start your day off and running is how you end your day. Behavioral scientist Amantha Imber suggests that you stop what you are doing mid task. If you are halfway through a design element, writing an email or whatever you are doing, stop. The reason is that stopping in the middle of something helps you to jump start your day the moment you sit down at your desk.
Avoid procrastinating when faced with a task that you don’t particularly want to do by rephrasing the negative and turning it into a positive. Instead of thinking, “I really don’t want to call customer service again to check on the status of a replacement part”, imagine how happy we can make our customers by making things right. We need to make sure that customer service can deliver for us.
Another motivator is to avoid beating yourself and your team up if a goal or deadline is not met. Don’t focus on the failure. Instead, flip the funnel and ask what this shortcoming teaches us. How can we avoid a similar result the next go round.
This is the time of year many showrooms set goals. Make sure that you clearly delineate the benefits that achieving the goal will deliver. It’s better to set as a goal that we are going to add 3 new builder clients this year instead of we will increase our prospecting for builder clients.
